Football feast: How Gloucestershire FA is out to drive more men into the modern game
ADULT male football enthusiasts in Gloucestershire and Bristol are to be presented with a personal and unique service in a concerted effort to inform them of the many playing opportunities on offer in a changing society.
Throughout March, Gloucestershire FA (GFA) will be promoting grassroots men’s football and all that’s on offer to adult males keen to play their part in the nation’s favourite game.
Recent years have seen a decline nationally in the number of traditional 11 v 11 men’s teams participating in Saturday and Sunday football.
Now the county football association, which serves hundreds of Bristol and Gloucestershire clubs and organisations operating at many different levels for all abilities, wants to try and address the downturn whilst promoting the many recreational opportunities on offer in a bid to get more men playing.
GFA spokesman Nathan Marland explained: “Over the next 31 days we will be shouting about the many various formats men can participate in, ranging from the traditional 11 v 11 game on a Saturday and Sunday to small-sided leagues and recreational turn-up-and-play sessions.
“We want more people to be aware of ALL the footballing opportunities available throughout Gloucestershire and Bristol. And there really is so much we can provide, including walking football, for those who prefer a gentler-paced version of the game, and disability football.
“In an attempt to get more men playing we will be offering free sessions and various funding support to help people get involved.
“It’s a case of keeping your eyes peeled on social media and on our website - www.gloucestershirefa.com – and getting in touch if you have any questions. We at Gloucestershire FA are here to help you!”
