Age is no barrier as Gloucestershire FA offers 70+ Division of Walking Football League
Gloucestershire FA were delighted to be able to expand our popular Walking Football League from the existing 50+ and 60+ divisions, to now include a division specifically designed for those over 70 years of age.
The league launched on Sunday 6th October at Coombe Dingle Sports Complex as part of Active Ageing Bristol’s festival to celebrate and promote healthy lifestyles in life’s later years. Teams from Bristol, Malmesbury, Clevedon and Keynsham were all at the event and basked in the sunshine and some friendly competition on the 3G pitch, overseen by qualified match officials.
One player enthused, “Many people who thought their days of playing team sport were over are, once again, able to play in and compete in a sport they loved. Also some of the players have never played football before and the vast majority just want to play for fun, fitness and friendship.”
On the day Phoenix Blue came out on top after some closely fought victories, but there is a long way to go this season and opportunity for any of the teams to snatch the title. Full results, tables and fixtures can all be found below :
