Freewheelers EVS is Our Charity of the Year
Gloucestershire FA Donate £2,000 to Freewheelers EVS – Our Charity of the Year
Gloucestershire FA is proud to be supporting Freewheelers EVS (Emergency Voluntary Service).
Freewheelers EVS is our chosen charity of the year for 2019 and the £2,000 donation will help them to continue delivering a free, out of hours service to the NHS and the wider community. Freewheelers is one of a number of ‘Blood Bike’ groups that cover almost the entire country.
The service provided by Freewheelers to the NHS usually goes unnoticed but is vital in saving people’s lives. It is provided free of charge and funded entirely by Public Donation and Sponsorship. They transport blood, pathology & microbiology specimens, patient notes, X-rays, breast milk, and other medical supplies.
Freewheelers EVS operate a fleet of motorcycles each equipped with high-visibility markings, blue lights and sirens for emergency use. If their service did not exist, hospitals would be forced to use taxis or commercial couriers. Freewheelers EVS is run entirely by volunteers. All riders hold an advanced motorcycling qualification, such as the advanced riding test by RoSPA, or IAM. They also have a team of fund raisers and telephone co-ordinators.
