The FA and British Heart Foundation Defibrillator initiative

Heart Safe Clubs

The FA’s initiative to provide Defibrillators to FA clubs in Gloucestershire.

Phase 3 of the FA’s initiative to provide defibrillators for Grassroots clubs officially launched from July 1st 2019.

Phases 1 & 2 of this initiative between the FA and the British Heart Foundation (BHF) which first launched in 2017 were a tremendous success and the allocated defibrillators were quickly taken up by clubs.

These two phases were part funded and although this will not continue, we are pleased to confirm that the FA has now secured an excellent price through WEL Medical, its supply partner.

The iPAD SP1 is a nominated unit of the British Heart Foundation and is supported by the NHS Ambulance service. The defibrillator is portable, it weighs just 2.4kg (including the battery pack and pads) and comes in a robust, high visibility carry case.

Research shows that over 90% of sudden cardiac arrests in young athletes happen either during or immediately after exercise. There are around 30,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests in England every year and for every minute lost without CPR and defibrillation, a person’s chance of survival decreases by around 10 percent.

Clubs can now purchase life-saving iPAD SP1 defibrillators for the special price of £750+VAT (usual cost £1325+VAT). The offer closes at the end of this calendar year so early applications are encouraged to avoid disappointment and clubs may purchase more than defibrillator.

As part of the FA exclusive package, clubs will be supported by FA approved and awarding winning training videos and assets as well as support from WEL Medical Field team. Clubs will also have the opportunity to purchase additional items at an FA negotiated reduced price.
