Sunset at St. George's Park

GFA to host Ramadan awareness event

This event will take place at Oaklands Park.

The Gloucestershire FA is delighted to announce our upcoming event focusing on Ramadan.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, during which strict fasting is observed from dawn to sunset. Our upcoming evening will look at how we can adapt football matches and training to be more mindful of those observing Ramadan. We will discuss coaching support and opportunities and delve into managing self and behaviours. We will also look at guidance for Match Officials and the impact Ramadan may have on matches.

Date: Thursday 28th March
Time: 6:00pm arrival for a 6:15 start
End: 8pm
Venue: Oaklands Park, Almondsbury, BS32 4AG
Deliverer: Abdoullah Kheir (FA Coach Developer)

Food will be available after sunset at approximately 6:30pm.

Sam Myatt, Equality & Workforce Development Manager: “We are really looking forward to this event. Abdoullah will help volunteers in our area to get a better understanding of what Ramadan is, and how we can ensure that all Muslim participants – whether they are players, coaches, referees or other volunteers – feel like they belong in football. We want to ensure that nobody sees fasting as a barrier to inclusion. This is a game For All and we encourage everyone to attend the session and play their part in that.”

This event is open to coaches, match officials and all other club volunteers. You can email Sam with any queries you might have about this event: Sam.Myatt@GloucestershireFA.com
