GFA Youth Council

The Gloucestershire FA formed its first Youth Council in March 2014, with the aim of providing young people in the county with a voice and a platform to be involved in decision making.

Young people are the future of our game; our future players and our future workforce. Therefore it’s vital we engage and retain them in football from an early age to secure the future of football.

The Gloucestershire FA Youth Council acts as an advisory board and representative body for children and young people (U25); providing them with a voice and a platform to be involved in decision making within our County Football Association.

The Gloucestershire FA Youth Council forms an integral part of the County FA and will be overseen by the Gloucestershire FA Council and report to the Gloucestershire FA Football Development Team and Gloucestershire FA Board.

In 2015, the Gloucestershire FA Youth Council went through a recruitment process and re-aligned its vision, aims and objectives to support the County FA targets. The Youth Councils vision is;

‘To inspire, empower, and support children and young people to have a voice in developing football throughout Gloucestershire’

There are many young volunteers dedicating hours each week to grassroots football as coaches, referees, administrators, event organisers, website designers and in many other roles. We have recognised that we need to utilise and harness the skills of our young leaders and provide a platform for them in which they can impact football positively; thus the creation of the Gloucestershire FA Youth Council.

The purpose of the Youth Council is:

  • To provide a voice for Young People involved in football throughout Gloucestershire, allow them to share their views and have their opinions heard
  • Use INSIGHT to influence the delivery of projects for young people across all areas of the game
  • Increase and support the volunteer workforce, particularly those aged 12-25, across grassroots football in Gloucestershire
  • Support the delivery of projects to help engage young people in football
