Last season’s Powerchair Football Week proved such a success that local charity Goals Beyond Grass are doing it all over again.

The week will run from 13th – 19th November 2017 and this year everyone can get involved.

Goals Beyond Grass (GBG) are the only dedicated Powerchair Football Charity in the UK and currently deliver five powerchair football teams in Bristol, Gloucester and Cheltenham. GBG also deliver outreach sessions in schools, community groups and day care centres.

The week will offer two opportunities for participants to try the sport with sessions at GL1 Leisure Centre on Monday 13th November, 14:00-15:00 and then a second session at GL1 on Sunday 19th November 2017, 11:00-14:00.

Goals Beyond Grass CEO, Brian Dix spoke of his enthusiasm for the week, ‘Last year’s event proved so successful that we knew we had to do it again in 2017’.

‘This year the event will offer more opportunities for players to try the sport, along with raising the profile of powerchair football across the country’.

‘We are especially excited about the social media campaign, the spin bin challenge which will hopefully increase awareness of powerchair football teams’.

If you are unable to attend one of the community sessions throughout the week, you can still get involved with Powerchair Football Week by taking part in the Goals Beyond Grass Powerchair Challenge.

The challenge involves spinning three times in an office chair and then throwing a ball of any description into a bin 3 metres away. Simply film your attempt and post on social media. Then nominate three friends and copy Goals Beyond Grass into your post using #powerchairweek

You can watch GBG’s General Manager, Patrick Cleal attempt the challenge below.

Back in July, the England Powerchair Football Team finished third in the FIPFA World Cup held in Florida.

Through Powerchair Football Week, Goals Beyond Grass are aiming to build the sport at grassroots level and continue to raise the profile of the game.
