Devon 2 - 1 Gloucestershire

Glos FA travelled to Devon FA today for their third game of the South West Counties League.

The game started with a fierce tempo with both teams exchanging possession in which neither side could retain the ball and impose any dominance.

The better of the chances fell to Devon in the first half with little testing Joe Wright in goal for Devon. However, Devon soon took the lead when the #9 picked up a clearance from the Devon defence, some great solo work, jinking through the Glos defence and finishing from the tightest of angles.

Glos soon replied with some great build up play down the right hand side and Tom Connor narrowly shooting over from a pulled back cross to the edge of the box.  1-0 the half time score.

The second half started with the same intensity however Glos now found themselves controlling the game more and enjoying the lion share of possession.

Chances were few and far between with Glos just missing that final piece of magic to create a clear cut chance. A quick system change from 3-5-2 to 4-3-3 spurred Glos on and we continued to retain the ball with good build up play though no clear cut chances materialised.

Late into the second half Devon found their feet in the game once more and managed to double their lead through some sublime footwork In the box. Joe Wright staked his claim for man of the match for an acrobatic diving save following a superbly hit volley from Devon which looked destined for the top corner.

Glos then replied late into the half following some great build up play, switching the ball left to right and captain Jamie Shaw finding space some distance out and unleashing a fierce shot at goal. 2-1.

Glos tried in vein to capitalise on the momentum shift but too little too late as the referees whistle called time on hard fought and well played fixture.
