Women's & Girls' Football

Women’s football has increased steadily in popularity over recent years with a big growth in girls football. Our aim at Gloucestershire FA is to do all we can to encourage more Women and Girls to get involved.

Sport England’s Active People survey in 2011 highlighted that 275,300 adult women play some form of football in England. This demonstrates that women's football is now the third largest team sport behind only men's football and men's cricket.
Indeed, FIFA has recently confirmed that there are 29m females playing football across the world.

Adult female teams based in Gloucestershire compete across a number of leagues and divisions. The majority of teams play in the Gloucestershire County Women’s League, progressing into the Regional South West Womens League and then onto the South West Combinations to the Tesco-sponsored National Southern Division.

As part of the FA Charter Standard Leagues Programme, all  3 of the female leagues in Gloucestershire have been awarded the FA's Charter Standard League Status. This demonstrates that they are committed to implementing the contents of their League Development Plans into Grassroots Football which have been constructed alongside the Gloucestershire FA's Football Development Team.
