Disability Football

In 2004 the FA launched its Disability Football Strategy, with a view to increase the opportunities for disabled people to play football at a grassroots level. Pledging £1.2 million to grassroots development and the running of the Six National Disability England squads.

The GFA in Partnership with the Football Foundation, WESPORT, Active Gloucestershire and Ability Sports launched its own Disability Strategy in September 2005, a 5-year project to increase opportunities and participation as well as developing a local player pathway for disabled people.

This has allowed the GFA to employ a full time Disability Football Development officer, who is focused on providing opportunities in schools and with clubs at a junior level as well as developing and supporting Ability Counts Clubs at the senior level.
