Gloucestershire FA - developing football for everyone

Central Bristol

Central Bristol is now benefiting from the FA’s Hat-Trick Regeneration programme. The FA secured partnership funding from both UEFA and the Government for its Hat-Trick regeneration programme, a three-year scheme that has seen the appointment of 19 community football workers across the country, one of whom being based in central Bristol.

The role of the community football worker is to provide a range of football opportunities for young people aged 7-16, while helping to address issues such as health, social exclusion and anti social behaviour. They will work closely with schools and local clubs, and have four priorities:

  • To get young people into football
  • To develop sustainable opportunities for children through FA Charter Standard clubs
  • To develop leaders and coaches from within the communities
  • To support the Government target of providing two hours of PE in schools every week
The Hat-Trick programme has now been running for 9 months in central Bristol and has seen the implementation of a number of new footballing initiatives, such as summer football festivals, girl’s football in primary schools and a refugee football tournament. With the new facilities at the Netham Sports Ground due to be completed in the spring of 2007, it’s an exciting time for football in central Bristol.
